Fungus Gnats

  • Flies belonging to the Order Diptera
  • Infest soil, larvae feed on organic matter & roots, causing stunted plant growth
  • Both larvae and adults can spread pathogens, though adults are primarily a nuisance
  • Can be a serious greenhouse pest
  • Dark & fragile looking, most species are 1/8” to 1/16” long
  • Not very strong fliers, not typically found flying inside of houses
  • When large infestations occur, fungus gnat larvae can leave slime trails
