Thrips
- Belong to the Order Thysanoptera
- Tiny (most species are less than 1/20”), skinny insects with fringed wings
- Color varies among species
- Thrips have piercing/sucking mouthparts
- Some species are beneficial, with a diet of mites & other insects
- Species of mite pests can scar fruit & distort other parts of plants
- Damage is usually discovered before thrips are actually found
- Other pests can cause damage similar to that caused by thrips, so pest identification is important to consider
