Whiteflies
- There are many species of whitefly, all belong to the Order Homoptera
- Tiny, moth-like
- Can usually be found on the underside of leaves in groups
- Possess piercing/sucking mouthparts and excrete “honeydew”
- During high infestation a cloud of whiteflies will disperse when disturbed
- Develop rapidly in warmer weather and in greenhouses
- Can persist on a wide range of host plants
- Ant numbers must be controlled before using biological control
